| With every new study that is done, it
becomes increasingly apparent that Churchill County's drinking water source is being
threatened. Simply put, the ground water upon which the residents and businesses of this
County rely is recharged by agricultural irrigation. If the water right owners of the
Newlands Project are not successful in defending their private property rights against the
legal challenges that have been brought against them, the County could well find itself
hard-pressed to replace the naturally occurring recharge of agricultural irrigation by
more complicated and certainly more expensive means. The Newlands Water Protective Association, Inc., is a non-profit Corporation whose purpose is to protect and defend the water and hydropower rights of the water right owners of the Newlands Reclamation Project. Toward that end, that Association has established the Newlands Water Legal Defense Fund for purposes of assisting individuals who are facing phenomenal attorneys fees as they endeavor to retain the ownership of their private property. As you can well imagine, facing financial ruin as a result of defending their Constitutional rights leaves many people feeling hopelessly frustrated. Encouragement is desperately needed. Recognizing that fact, the Association hosts various fund-raising activities throughout the year. Since everyone benefits in some way from the water that comes into these valleys, we need everyone's help in protecting it for our future needs and use. A healthy agriculture is vital for a healthy Fernley and Fallon. Your contribution to our organization will allow NWPA to continue to defend the water and hydropower rights of this area.
